Losing My Identity | by Linda Brendle

CityGirlThis is what I wrote for my City Girl column in the Rains County Leader this week:

I may be in danger of losing my identity as a city girl. Last week David and I drove into the city, and I didn’t like it very much – at least the city part of it.

In February, the winter weather prevented some of our friends from the Dallas area from coming to Emory for my first book signing. Two absentees were Peggy and James, the former neighbors and motorcycle buddies who play several pivotal roles in my book. Even though we hadn’t seen each other since 2007 when we came through the Metroplex in our RV, Peggy and I have kept in touch by email and Facebook. Disappointed by the lost opportunity to reconnect at the signing, we devised another plan – she invited me to speak at an upcoming Sunday school dinner. As the time drew closer, James suggested that we spend the night so we could have more time to catch up. (more…)

Book Signing Photos | by Linda Brendle

My first official book signing was Saturday, February 28, in the Meadows Room of the Rains County Library. In spite of the cold weather and the icy road conditions in the Metroplex, we proceeded as planned. It was such fun that I hope to do another one some time soon.

Hiding In the Luggage | by Linda Brendle

annointing saulThe last time our youth minister brought the morning message at my church, he preached about the rise and fall of King Saul as told in 1 Samuel. The part that stood out to me was a small story in Chapter 10.

Saul was sent to find some lost donkeys. On the way, he met the Prophet Samuel who told him he had been chosen by God to be the king of Israel. Saul was reluctant, protesting that he was just a small town boy – not really king material. Later, when Samuel was ready to crown him publicly, Saul was found hiding in the luggage. I guess it was hard for him to move out of his comfort zone and onto center stage. (more…)

On Being a Celebrity | by Linda Brendle

RCL Book Signing articleDavid and I made the front page of the local newspaper last week. It was a small article announcing my upcoming book signing, and it included a picture of the two of us. Since then, we’ve encountered part of the fifteen minutes of fame Andy Warhol predicted everyone would experience in the modern world.

A lot of people at the Senior Center commented on the article and the picture. Most of them congratulated me and asked questions about the book – and quite a few of them asked David how it felt to be a celebrity husband. He was very gracious about the teasing. (more…)

My First Book Signing | by Linda Brendle

Signing my first bookMy first book signing was small but very special. I work at my church as the part-time secretary, and when I arrived at the church earlier this week, I noticed something very familiar lying on the pastor’s desk. It was a paperback copy of my book, the first one I had seen. My copies are on the way, but his arrived first. He asked me to sign his copy, and I was excited to do so.

Other book signing events are in the planning stages – watch this blog and my various social media sites for details. These upcoming events will be more official, and hopefully larger, than the first one, but none of them will be any more special.
