Cooperation at Its Best | by Linda Brendle

Published in the Rains County Leader on April 18, 2017:

Rains_County_TexasShortly after David and I moved to Emory in February of 2011, we were told that, even though Rains is one of the smallest counties in Texas, it contains approximately twenty churches.

“That means one of two things,” quipped our guide. “Either there are a lot of religious people in Rains County or they can’t along.” (more…)

When I was growing up, Easter was, among other things, a time for new clothes, big family dinners, and pictures. This year involved two out of three, but in a rather non-traditional way. (more…)

Granddaughters, Broken Hearts, and Good Friday | by Linda Brendle

Broken HeartMy granddaughter Zoe spends more time thinking about spiritual matters then the typical six year old, but having a mother who is a minister and a father who is a Christian author has informed her theology at a young age. I haven’t made much progress, though, so I spent a good bit of the day catching up on e-mail and trying to help my brother untangle the red tape that has kept Mom from getting her survivor benefits from Dad’s pension for eleven months. I got as far as I could with the pension and turned my attention back to the post. I looked at my notes and thought, Naaah, that’s not it. Then I thought back to an e-mail I sent to my friend in Florida. Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. So, with a few edits, here it is. (more…)
