November is National Family Caregivers Month. According to a news release from the U.S. Census Bureau, this is a special time during which “we recognize the love and sacrifice of more than 50 million Americans providing crucial care and medical assistance to parents, children, siblings and other loved ones, ensuring their health and dignity.”
Family caregiving is very familiar to me because my mother had Alzheimer’s and my father had vascular dementia. With the help of my older brother and both our spouses, I was their primary caregiver through various stages of their diseases for fifteen years. In 2007, when Mom and Dad were living with my husband David and me, the four of us spent seven weeks touring the southeastern U.S. in a forty-foot motor home. There were lots of stories – funny, sad, eye-opening, tender, frustrating, and more. I kept a journal, and seven years later Anaiah Press published my first memoir. People fell in love with Mom and Dad and wanted to know what happened next, so five years later Anaiah released the rest of the story.
To celebrate National Caregivers Month, both ebooks are available for $.99
